Job Description

General project management from conception to completion to an agreed technical endpoint
◼ Participating in technical discussion of NPD and managing approved projects to agreed deadlines
◼ Product optimisation projects through raw material rationalisation or cost evaluation
◼ Colour matching requirements either through factory make or the DACMIX tinting system
◼ Complying with required laboratory actions relating to internal error reports and external complaints
◼ Competitor product analysis through laboratory benchmarking evaluation
◼ Reporting and keeping up to date experimental records
◼ Maintaining standards and in-house procedures
◼ Implementation and enforcement of Health and Safety procedures including COSHH assessments
◼ Implementing latest legislation in to our standard working practices and product offer
◼ Use the TSR, RME and PDR log to allocate projects and monitor progress and deliver project objectives
◼ Establish KPIs for the operation of the laboratory and delivery of projects

Laboratory management projects
◼ Lead the laboratory team in working collaboratively with other departments
◼ Act as the line manager for the laboratory team to ensure a smooth operation that is flexible to the needs of the business
◼ Delegate tasks to ensure deadlines are met and to enable team members to grow their experience in their roles
◼ Support and guide staff in achieving their objectives
◼ Maintain standard Operating Procedures for all laboratory work including standard test and reporting procedures, regular reporting and alignment with the demands of the business
◼ Assist the Quality Compliance Manager with the integration of project deliverables through production: formulae modification; batch supervision; review of production methods to optimise batch efficiency and production times.
◼ Evaluate and update current training records for all laboratory staff
◼ Encourage best practice in approach to all laboratory work
◼ Enforce all Health & Safety procedures expected by the business and current legislation

Review laboratory equipment periodically to ensure it is in a serviceable condition and is running effectively. Communicate any problems with lab equipment to the Head of Technical Operations
◼ Work effectively with other members of staff across all departments to achieve common goals for the business
◼ Agree project scope and reporting timeframes for all technical projects with the Head of Technical Operations 3.
Project Planning and communication
◼ Work independently under the guidance of the Senior Management team, planning and organising the workload of the Laboratory team to meet the needs of immediate staff and the needs of other departments.
◼ Supervise the Laboratory team to ensure efficient use of equipment and other resources
◼ Use standard procedures for scoping, planning and tracking projects
◼ Develop and/or expand on existing procedures to ensure projects are planned in the most efficient way
◼ Communicate effectively with team members and rest of the business with updates on Project Pipeline progress available for weekly Management Meeting
◼ Communicate any issues regarding the effective operation of the Laboratory team to the Head of Technical Operations

 

Sales and commercial development
◼ Support the Head of Sales as required by undertaking/managing specific lab tasks via TSR’s to agreed deadlines
◼ Conduct customer site visits and/or production trials to problem solve or optimise the production process
◼ Communicate project outcomes and laboratory test conclusions to customers via technical reports, presentations, phone calls and email as appropriate 5.
Procurement
◼ Collaborate with the Procurement Manager to minimise risks to the business by ensuring dual supply or approved alternatives are in place as much as possible
◼ Support Procurement by supervising cost saving opportunities and raw material rationalisation
◼ Communicate all approved legislative proposals affecting the business to assist in planning against sunset dates and regulatory deadlines 6.
Production
◼ Support production with a review of operational efficiencies and scale up procedures following formulation modifications
◼ Investigate potential for increased capacity, process improvement and batch card integrity

 

Marketing and Customer Services
◼ Assist Customer Services in responding to technical queries/questions and in the technical resolution of complaints to agreed timeframes
◼ Process new line number formulation requests throughout the laboratory in accordance with agreed customer delivery dates and production schedule

Provide support to Marketing through the generation of technical literature, presentations, reports and coated test panels for customer distribution
◼ Assist in providing technical content for the website and other customer communications 8.
Legislation
◼ Encourage a culture of adopting practices in research and development work that implement the requirements of current and possible future environmental and health & safety legislation, especially regarding the Solvent Emissions Directive and UK REACH
◼ Use research and development of new products to allow Dacrylate to become leaders in responding or anticipating new legislation requirements
◼ From involvement in appropriate trade bodies and scientific institutes, communicate any information regarding impending legislation that may affect the business, the development of coatings and the continued sales of existing products
