Job Description

This position operates in a high pressure and highly confidential way and the job holder must be
capable of analysing complex issues, in order to be able to recommend and implement solutions.
The job holder is responsible for SHE activities and issues for all UK sites of the FCS group, and must be
willing to travel regularly between all sites. The SHE Manager will also take an advisory role to support
SHE activities at our European sites which might involve some overseas travel. The position has as a
core role the promotion of safety and environmental management throughout the company.
Therefore the SHE manager must be able to influence the activities of operational managers so that
they take a proactive role in managing SHE issues in their departments.
The job holder will maintain detailed knowledge of all legal requirements relating to the company’s
activities, so that these requirements are satisfied by the company’s policies, procedures and decision
making in addition to day-day operations.
The SHE manager will maintain the SHE management systems in order to both comply with
appropriate standards, and to promote and implement continuous improvement in the company’s
performance. The job holder will be responsible for overseeing all relevant internal and external audit
processes. The job holder will be comfortable working at all levels within the company. Policy
decisions made with senior management will affect the accreditation and lawful operation of the
Company.
Day to day the SHE manager will be approachable to all levels of staff and be familiar the detail of
working environments.
The job holder should be confident and reassuring, tactful, diplomatic, analytical, cool under pressure
and assertive when necessary and able to develop professional working relationships with internal and
external colleagues and organisations.
The post holder must have an enthusiasm for the task in hand and a willingness to work under pressure
in order to meet deadlines and be prepared to work unsocial hours as necessary.
They will be expected to help other members of the management team as required and as priorities
demand. A close relationship with the QA management team is especially important to provide support
as required, and to share common resources such as audit management tools.
The job holder must be willing to be trained on any additional subjects relevant to the job. Examples
may be core activities within safety or environmental, or supporting resources such as computer
software etc. as designated by the company.
