It employs more than 5000 employees across over 40 sites and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.Purpose Of RoleTo own and project manage the delivery of statutory and regulatory reporting for the Synthomer Group in Europe (12 countries, 40 corporate tax returns and 41 statutory accounts).Balance of activity is 60:40 towards the stats work. There is a need to understand the composition of the statutory accounts and concepts such as IFRS, and knowledge of the local GAAP/standards etc. Given the need to be involved in the group tax provisions at year end a good understanding of tax is required and the concepts that would apply to each country is also required.Management and contribution to ad-hoc business projects as required.Main Accountabilities

  • Coordinate and project manage the European Corporate Tax Compliance and Statutory Accounts preparation with our chosen co-source provider working alongside the Group Tax and European Shared Services Team (12 countries, 40 corporate tax returns and 41 statutory accounts)
  • Prepare/review specific claims such as R&D tax credits and capital allowances claims working with external advisers/in-house R&D/local Engineers to identify and categorise expenditure, maximising claims where possible
  • Work with our co-source provider and European SSC team to ensure corporate tax returns and statutory accounts are filed on time and are accurate.
  • Work with our co-source provider and Group tax to ensure tax reporting into group and local statutory account tax reporting is timely and accurate
  • Ensure corporate tax payments are appropriately forecast and made
  • Work with the European Shared Services Team to represent Direct Taxes, improving processes and understanding around corporate tax, withholding taxes and employment taxes – such as PAYE Settlement Agreements
  • Ensure corporate taxes are correctly booked in the underlying SAP systems and feed into group reporting
  • Prepare year-end tax reporting under FRS 102 for UK subsidiaries and manage the relationship with external auditors of tax across Europe
  • Act as the first point of contact for European Tax Authorities on Direct Tax audits, working alongside the Group Tax team and external advisers on strategy/approach
  • Work alongside Group Tax and the European Shared Services Team to ensure Direct Tax requirements are fully considered in our implementation of S4 Hana.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements in areas of responsibilities
  • Involvement in finance projects and ad-hoc requests
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and internal controls and ensure all related process documentation is reviewed and updated continuously

EssentialSkills and Knowledge:

  • Accounting qualification (CIMA/ACA/ACCA)
  • Experience of preparing statutory accounts
  • Preferred/Desired
  • Tax Qualification ATT/CTA
  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Experience of tax compliance
  • Experience of preparing year end tax provisions for group reporting
  • Ability to work independently and build relations with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, written and verbal.
  • Ability to lead and manage a project effectively.
  • Extensive experience and judgment in planning and accomplishing goals.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in working cross-functionally and in a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Location and Travel requirements:Position is part of the European Shared Service Centre team in Harlow (UK).
