£36,000 – £46,000 depending on experience + benefits

Awarded Top Employer status, we are a company that forms successful partnerships with customers and are now recruiting an experienced Senior Chemist to join our Food, Caps & Closures and General Line (FCG) Packaging Coatings R&D team in Birmingham.
This lab-based position requires both leadership skills and extensive formulation experience. The role covers new product development, troubleshooting customer issues, manufacturing support and running cost effectiveness programs. You will lead and drive the delivery of projects within agreed timescales and support team members to ensure requests follow our project management process and are delivered effectively. You will develop clear project plans and regularly update stakeholders. You will support the development of less experienced members of the team, providing direction and guidance and sharing technical expertise. Your remit will include attending customer line trials to support new product introductions. The ability to build relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers as well as share best practice internally is also important.
You must be a graduate or equivalent in a Science subject, ideally Chemistry and experienced in the formulation, manufacture, application and testing of coatings. You will possess good practical and laboratory skills and be proficient in project management too. Comfortable planning and implementing programmes in a methodical and logical manner, you will also have excellent communication, problem-solving and relationship building skills. Experience in the use of experimental statistical design is a requirement.
Practical experience of formulating coatings for direct food contact and knowledge of polymer chemistry, principles and practice would be highly advantageous.
