Mission of the role:

Devise, secure agreement to and execute a strategy to improve the performance of Operations, with the target of achieving world-class manufacturing operations and performance. Provide constant challenge of the status quo; champion lean philosophy; implement robust measurement of operational performance and losses; lead the development and implementation of a continuous improvement plan.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing Strategies and Techniques: Devise and project manage the implementation of world-class manufacturing strategies and techniques to maximise benefit for the business, customers and all stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement: Develop, execute and drive a strategy for the continuous improvement of production systems and standards, capacity, efficiency, productivity, operational processes, cost reduction and overall manufacturing performance.

Asset Management: Analyse, co-ordinate, monitor and leverage all production assets, budgets, management resources and day-to-day activities, to optimise production asset deployment, minimise waste, improve organisation effectiveness, increase teamwork, develop asset capability, talent and performance and improve levels of employee engagement.

Increase the transparency of Operations by ensuring robust measurement of losses for all areas of Operations e.g. generation of appropriate loss trees. To perform the duty of gatekeeper for the measurement system.

Encourage a ‘management by fact’ mindset.

Increase productivity within Operations by leading usage of the appropriate lean tools (e.g. value stream mapping, 5S, Kanban) to eliminate losses such as delay, duplication, unnecessary movement, unclear communication, incorrect inventory, lost sales and product defects.

Coach the production team in continuous improvement techniques and help them cascade this approach to their teams to develop a proactive continuous improvement culture. Help ensure that ownership of work is allocated to the lowest appropriate level.

Develop training programmes and deliver training in the use of continuous improvement tools.

Challenge the production team to ensure appropriate momentum of improvement.

Maintain the SW Continuous Improvement Database.

Project manage improvement initiatives.

Support Colleagues in Delivering projects.

Carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the Plant Manager.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications/ Experience:

Minimum 3 Years manufacturing operations management experience, including at a senior level, in FMCG, Automotive or a Service Industry.

Engineering background is desirable.

Minimum of 5 Years working in a lead CI position

Have demonstrability knowledge of Implementing and Sustaining 5S to a high Standard.

Accredited Lean Six Sigma Green Belt as a minimum and preferably Black Belt, or equivalent, with strong analytical capabilities and considerable experience of developing and implementing continuous/process improvement activities, using and coaching Continuous Improvement tools and techniques.

Knowledge

How to create, facilitate and lead operational improvement activities across a large and complex set of production assets

Excellent understanding of continuous improvement concepts with practical knowledge and ability to implement Lean, value stream mapping, 6 Sigma,SMED,TPM,TAKT,SPF, Pull Systems,FMEA and Process Mapping,

Knowledge and experience of using standard work pillars for improvement within a factory

Strong financial and commercial awareness, with a good understanding of interaction between all functional areas .

Demonstration of strong leadership through influencing and coaching; enthusiasm and patience to develop others; ability to communicate effectively at all levels; energetic passion for creativity and innovation; objective, analytical style.
