The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum Trust Ltd is an award-winning Charity championing STEM education and hosting a unique Chemicals archive, it is renowned in the NW Chemicals and Science sector. Since Covid, this long-established, highly popular school and family orientated visitor attraction has accelerated its growth, having secured major funding to enhance its facilities, it already now works with 220 schools at Key Stages 1-3, who attend educational field visits, besides the public and corporate clients. Catalyst is based in an historic Tier 11 listed building, set in spacious grounds at the very heart of the modern Chemicals industry where it all began in the NW in Halton, at Spike Island. RMG is proud to partner with Catalyst to recruit their next General Manager/CEO.

Reporting to a highly engaged Board of Trustees, you will work collaboratively with this diverse and established team, which includes technical experts/PhD Scientists. You will join their newly appointed Non-Executive Chair to drive the strategy and continued commercial growth of this excellent venue into its next era. Successful fund raising is paramount to achieve the planned growth and future vision for the venue; the role will include leading and achieving further wins from major bids, such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This will be a ‘visible’ role in the community and local business sector, it requires an ability to influence, retain, promote, and establish long term relationships with many essential supporters, major companies and SME’s, the County Council, with Patrons, volunteers, schools, families, and the wider local and regional communities.
This is also a hands-on operational management lead role, with full responsibility for the P&L and for tight financial control and governance of this progressive, well-run Charity and Museum, including the listed building requirements. This includes the Charity specific management of restricted and unrestricted funds. You will directly manage c20 full and part time staff (enthusiastic operational managers and STEM educationalists), plus the ever-growing team of valued volunteers. As such, you must be an experienced, supportive ‘people’ manager able to train, develop and delegate. Ensuring continual improvement too, of processes, systems, and communication to meet the increasing demands of this growing organisation and team is needed.

The successful applicant will be of graduate calibre, from a scientific/technical/educational or commercial background. With experience of managing a successful business P&L, or alternatively a proven Manager of a successful Charity, Visitor venue, or Museum. Catalyst is open to applications from diverse backgrounds. This is a busy permanent key role, needing flexibility and a calm ability to spin many plates and priorities at both strategic and operational level. You will need to be willing to fully commit to this position on a Part-Time basis, for 3 days or more per week (ideally for at least the next 2-3 years) and live in commuting distance. Catalyst is typically open 6-7 days per week.

If you believe you have the experience and attributes required to be successful in this role, we would be delighted to hear from you.
