Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to assist and improve operational performance.
  • Ensure the quality team is sufficiently qualified and trained.
  • Ensure all customer requirements are met (In specification, COA requirements, etc..)
  • Coordinate with S&T to set a specification for new products & improve our process control continuously
  • Structure the Quality System ensuring it is in line with the European guidelines and any external certifications (ISO 9001, ISO14000) or specific customer requirements in order to gain and maintain marketing edge.
  • Responsible to monitor and coordinate activities on a site level, ensuring quality service level targets are met, leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working alongside the QA Manager be responsible for timely response/resolution to quality complaints, troubleshooting manufacturing problems and internal complaints/alerts.
  • Evaluate QC team performance (discipline in testing rigour, adherence to standards).
  • Identify QC touch time reductions to speed up and shorten testing/release times.
  • Recommend future shape of QC team in readiness for permanent QC Manager onboarding.
  • Support the completion of equipment installation and qualification of new QC and Process laboratories (testing equipment, spray booths etc).
  • Read across to QA and evaluation of QMS.
  • Be a part of the site SLT and support operating model (daily tier 3 meetings, monthly ops meeting etc)
  • Ready site for BSI audit pass planned for Sept 24.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable a strong primary point of contact for QC matters when escalation is required.
  • Ownership of recruitment, retention, training and development of PPG QC department, including succession planning.
  • Manages a programme of continuous improvements across PPG QC development working with the ppg ci site-based team to prioritise activities.
  • Gap analysis on current QC business processes and create testing SOPs where gaps exist.
  • Participate in the Senior Management Team, contributing to organizational development and strategy.
  • Identify current and future lab equipment gaps to enable improved testing requirements.
  • Develop and incubate the daily Tier 2 operating model and KPIs.
  • Lead root cause analysis, coordinating corrective/preventative actions for customer complaints, internal nonconformance’s and alerts and driving continuous improvement initiatives on site to deliver year over year improvements in quality, productivity and yield.
  • Apply innovative thinking, sound engineering principles and continuous improvement tools and methodologies, including LSS principles, to deliver step change results
  • Support external customer audits.
  • Support infernal QMS audit programme.
  • Performance assessment and conclude suitability of current QC team leaders and identify potential succession/in team talent.
  • Gallup survey results and develop improvement plan for QC team.
  • Manage budgets, inventory, and resource allocation to maximize profitability.
  • Taking the lead in creating a great place to work for everyone on a day-to-day basis whilst thinking ahead to ensure your team have a development journey with PPG.
  • Ensuring HR People polices are adhered to.

Personal Specification

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Able to maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, methodical, well organised and has a positive attitude
  • Ability to prioritise own tasks
  • Degree in chemistry, quality management or chemical engineering equivalent or
  • 4+ year experience in the specialty chemical and/or sealants/coatings industry or knowledge of sealants / coating manufacturing equipment desirable.
  • 3+ yrs of senior leadership of people management
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with ability to engage, lead others and communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage and work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
  • A concern for high standards and compliance.
  • To ensure delivery of all required statutory training responsibilities and work within company policies and procedures.
  • To liaise with HR and implement group initiatives and people policies.
  • Be certified as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (will be an advantage).
  • Have good knowledge and experience of quality improvement / problem solving techniques such as: 5S, CoPQ measures, 8D/CAPA, Kaizen/PDCA, Six Sigma & DMAIC methodology.
