About the role

Our Development projects are run as cross functional teams to deliver world class products for coding and marking. The products embody mechanical housings and precision mechanisms, micro fluid handling systems, electronics and software in one elegant package, manufactured in low to medium volume and sold worldwide. As the Model Shop Technologist you will play a key role within the cross functional teams, supporting the development of new products from concept through to delivery.

  • Responsible for the safe operation of machine tools located in the model shop.
  • Work to sketches and full engineering drawings as supplied by other departmental staff.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and tidiness within the department.
  • Provide Engineers with manufacturing data as to influence the design criteria i.e. DFM, DFA.
  • Give input to design and attend project meetings when called upon.
  • Work to Domino and Model Shop internal procedures.
  • Design and manufacture of jig & fixtures, instillation designs to budget, in line with process requirements and procedures.
  • Work within the Health and Safety guidelines of the company.
  • Put forward ideas for improvements and opportunities.
  • Undertake other duties where necessary as identified by the Department manager.

This role will predominantly be office based in Bar Hill, Cambridge.

About you

  • Essential In depth knowledge and use of workshop practices (e.g. Turning, Milling , Grinding etc…)
  • Can apply and understands the use if dimensional tolerances, limits and fits and geometric tolerances.
  • Be able to communicate to other team members and departmental staff.
  • Be computer literate & knowledge and the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • To have experience in CNC/ CAM, 21/2D and 3D programming.
  • Working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS
  • Previous experience of working in a tool room, manufacturing or research and development workshop and an understanding of the issues to be faced in such a workshop
  • Knowledge of laser cutting, 3D modelling and rapid prototyping equipment
  • Sheet metal and fabrication skills
  • Desirable Mold tool design and manufacture.
