About the job

The Regional R&D Director for EMEAI is a member of the Global Protective & Marine R&D technology leadership team and is responsible for leading the R&D teams in Bolton UK, Vaihingen Germany, Bangalore India and Thouars France.

This position is accountable for leading the development of new product technologies and shepherding key programs that drive significant strategic global growth in Sherwin-Williams’s Protective & Marine business.

What your responsibilities include…

  • Coordinates global technical activities in conjunction with technical leaders in other regions to ensure alignment with global strategic plans and best practices sharing
  • Builds organization capability and drives efficiency of resource utilization, e.g., champions and drives best practices, institutes project management and portfolio management with business leaders and R&D teams, reviews infrastructure requirements, hires, trains and guides people development
  • Works collaboratively with Sales and Marketing to support and secure new business as well as maintain current customer base
  • Identifies, institutes, and manages external technology and innovation partnerships with global companies and institutes for regional and global advantage in support of overall P&M strategy
  • Drives and captures intellectual property developments
  • Partners with Regional Procurement to support raw material selection and cost saving projects for the region
  • Develops key customer and supplier relationships that support business maintenance and growth
  • Enables and influences internal/external connectivity to drive strategic initiatives and projects
  • Coordinates technical activities in conjunction with global technical leaders to ensure product development and technical transfer to and from the regions in alignment with the global strategic product plans

What we are ideally looking for…

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry (preferred)
  • Minimum 15 years industry experience or equivalent in the development of coatings, plastics, or related products and/or polymer development / materials science
  • Direct leadership of teams at multiple sites for >5 years
  • Strong strategic perspective and ability to deal with complex requirements and set priorities
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise professional manner internally and externally to identify and build productive collaborations and partnerships.
  • Knowledge of related Regional markets, product stewardship, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated intellectual property management, including contracts and patents
  • Demonstrated ability to work within major cross-functional and global programs/groups
  • Demonstrated ability to drive open innovation and attract industry and academic experts, ability to set up and lead partnerships and joint developments
  • Experience in project management tools, i.e., Design for Six Sigma / statistical expertise desire
