The Development Chemist role will actively support the PPG Runcorn Technical Team
Key Responsibilities
- To engage in laboratory and technical safety for the benefit of all members.
- Plan and develop product modifications aligned with PPG IC strategic and tactical programs.
- Complete laboratory work (INDX) requests in an efficient, organized, scientific and professional manner, ensuring the request is relevant to the goals and product designs of the organization. Laboratory work can involve customer specific product modification, preparation, application, analysis (SEM, EDS, DSC, TGA, etc.) and physical testing of coatings.
- Provide appropriate written or verbal updates including variances from agreed development timing plans. Reporting of results to the management team and preparation of technical reports.
- To enter and maintain formulae and QC structures within the control system.
- Assist in the preparation of material safety data sheets (SDS) and product data sheets (PDS) for all new products together with any additional information required.
- Ensure the first time make (FTM) process is correctly followed and implemented. Work closely with PPG operations team and provide technical support when required to do so.
- Present results both internally and to customers through reports and presentations and provide technical support to the sales team.
- Participate in any technical service and customer visits when required.
- Other duties as directed by the Technical Manager.
Qualifications
- Chemistry Degree or equivalent background
- Understanding of coatings, coating development/formulation and application.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and appreciation for high quality work.
- Flexibility, self-motivated with ability to work individually as well as in a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience with giving presentations and meeting with customers
- To be adaptable and willing to travel when required
Desirable
- Experience with direct customer contact / support
- Experience in developing/formulating coatings
- Basic project management qualifications or experience
- Experience of statistical analysis, including design of experiments
