Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

This role is to ensure due process and purchase of raw materials in support of the Monomers and Acrylates Trading Business. This includes developing a strategy regarding acrylic monomer, propylene and oxo-alcohols for ongoing and new business opportunities, determining quantity and quality and negotiating cost and contractual terms.

The objective is to manage a balanced portfolio of products and suppliers to ensure security of supply, contribute to competitive advantage for the business and drive functional excellence. This role is also key to enabling the business to develop sustainable product through sourcing renewable feedstocks and coordinating with Synthomer Group to evaluate the potential to produce sustainable products in support of Synthomer’s Sustainability goals.

 

Main Accountabilities:

Drive cost and performance improvements and contribute to competitive advantage in Synthomer’s Monomers and Acrylates Trading Business.

 

Develop contracting strategies, procurement and planning processes to move Synthomer to top quartile performance, understand and manage risk versus reward, report on the performance of the Monomers & Acrylates Trading Business

 

Understand the external market and the impact of Synthomer’s sourcing activities, communicate clearly and effectively to multiple business stakeholders, to ensure that informed business decisions are made by the SBU, which maximise and utilise the value created

 

Development of strategies related to purchase of raw materials and planning of their use at Synthomer Sites in order to create value for the Group

 

Work closely with technical and operations teams to implement alternative raw material suppliers to manage risk and opportunities

 

Manage projects to determine the feasibility of producing new dispersions products using renewable feedstocks, in support of Synthomer’s Sustainability goals, liaising with the other business units and functions within the Group

 

Co-ordinate with Group Legal to ensure supply agreements are put in place using the Legal engagement process and finalising contracts in a timely fashion

 

Effective management and value leverage of raw material supplier relationships consistent with company Procurement Strategy and Policy

 

Support Synthomer’s Integrated Business Planning process and ensure up to date and accurate information is shared through the Supply Point Capability Review

 

Ensure monthly analytics & Reporting on Value Creation and KPIs are conducted and estimate the annual spend for each commodity within his/her responsibility and leverage these analyses in business planning, strategies and negotiations.

 

Support the development of new products through early involvement with the SBU, Engineering and R&D on alternative identification and supply agreement negotiations

 

Contribute to the development implementation of agreed corporate and functional initiatives in line with expectations and agreements, e.g., Pathway, SAP Ariba, European Business Model etc

 

Contribute to best practice and market intelligence sharing alongside Synthomer’s raw materials Procurement Managers in order to maximise Synthomer Group value ensuring alignment with Group Procurement policies and processes

 

Lead in the demonstration and implementation of Synthomer Core Values and comply with all legal and ethical standards and expectations at all times

 

Interfacing with, & representing the RM requirement to, various suppliers & other Synthomer Procurement Colleagues to identify opportunities to leverage Synthomer’s global buying position

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduate, degree qualified or equivalent professional experience, highly numerate
  • Extensive procurement experience within the petrochemical environment
  • Significant experience of managing senior key stakeholders, across business functions, internally and externally
  • Experience of managing multiple contacts
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to manage competing demands to ensure delivery
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; Confident and articulate presenter
  • Experience developing new supplier relationships
  • Strong cultural awareness, adaptability and ability to operate across geographic regions
