Job Overview

Perform Sensory and Consumer Evaluation in support of the Sales/Marketing objectives in collaboration with Beverage, Sweet. Savory, Bionutrients Technical Teams, Innovations, Operations and Quality to enhance business results and opportunities through superior execution. Assist in training the cross-functional teams in common flavour language and in maintaining the trained descriptive panel.


  • Set-up panel for computerised evaluation including necessary preparations of samples and the sensory area for panels
  • Coordinate and conduct panels (including descriptive analysis) under standard approved criteria (ASTM standards)
  • Conduct panels in-house or off-site as needed for affective, discriminatory, and descriptive evaluations; plus consumer insights
  • Reports taste panel results accurately
  • Collaborates with Sensory Manager to analyse, interpret and present reports to effectively communicate actionable results
  • Maintains the upkeep of the sensory laboratory, preparatory and booth area in collaboration with the Sensory Technician (if applicable)
  • Maintains safe, clean and orderly work area following the company’s prescribed safety procedures and general GLP’s
  • Participate in bench cuttings and taste evaluations in selecting qualified finished products for Sensory panels and for customers’ flavour library
  • Work and interact with other members of the team, internal customers, plus internal and external panelists
  • Performs any other tasks which are reasonable within the scope of this description


  • Specialised expertise in all aspects of Sensory Evaluation including Descriptive, Discrimination and Affective Testing
  • Proficiency in use of Sensory software (especially Compusense); understanding of Sensory Statistical Analysis techniques and strong communication, organisational and GLP skills essential.
  • Computer, math, statistic and communication skills essential as well as interpersonal skills. Understanding of nature of flavour ingredients, some product development experience, ability to learn quickly and willingness to taste everything also required
  • Ability to apply current SCET, protocols and design of experiment to execute sensory projects in support of the business to help secure WINS
  • Absence of any serious food/fragrance allergies preferred

  • Required by supervisor – works semi-independently with regular reviews of work in progress and completed
  • Given to subordinates – may direct activities of Sensory Technician to optimise project progress

Working conditions:

  • Normal working conditions are mostly in a Sensory Laboratory; sometimes outside test locations may be used for consumer testing. Some travels may be required as needed.
