Job Overview
This position is part of a team of Product and Portfolio Managers which forms part of the wider Strategic Marketing function. Its primary focus is on the management and development of assigned parts of the wider product portfolio, both assigned parts of the wider product portfolio, both manufactured and distributed, via the following:
  • Ownership of pricing, allocation, positioning and focus of products
  • Research, maintain and disseminate competitive information on assigned products/product line
  • Use external resources and market intelligence to inform strategy and decisions around pricing, positioning, allocation and introduction of products in the portfolio
  • Lead portfolio refreshment, new product introduction/development, discontinuance and product transitions within the assigned product and chemistry areas
  • Take part in business development activities across the full portfolio to ensure commercialisation of new products and technologies is optimised
  • Coordinate strategic new principal and/or product acquisition activity
Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with other teams to create and deliver budgets, forecasts and cash conversion targets
  • Product and portfolio management activities to serve as an expert and internal and external champion for assigned products/product lines
  • Develop, coordinate and disseminate product message, strategy, positioning, market segmentation and set pricing, volume allocation and provide input on credit policy with liaison and input from sales, principal management and finance functions
  • Analyse supply chains and make strategic procurement decisions on designated key raw materials and principal products in liaison with operations, finance and principal management functions
  • Input into the commercial aspects of data driven, market led justification for new product development programs, product discontinuation initiatives and production outsourcing
  • Participate in cross-functional activity with the Sales and Principal Management Teams to identify and develop customer and principal facing initiatives required to achieve growth goals
  • Build, maintain and disseminate information from a Marketing database containing relevant competitive and market dynamics intelligence
  • Drive commercialisation and new business development and manufacturing dependent upon area of responsibility
  • Be active in the market utilising a network of internal and external relationships to gather market intelligence and deliver credible and effective actions, both proactively and reactively
Requirements:
  • Numerate and IT literate having intermediate level or higher skills in the use of Microsoft Office software. The use of Excel pivot tables to analyse and present data will be expected of the incumbent in this role
  • Strong analytical capability - able to collect, record and interpret data and present possible implications and recommendations for action
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with capability to interact at all levels of management and function within the Company and its principal base
  • Minimum 5 years of experience gained within customer facing roles within a chemical manufacturing business operating within the personal care, food ingredients or coatings sector
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a product management/marketing or new product commercialisation role
  • An influencer - able to influence and direct colleagues in other teams who do not reports to them to deliver desire product and portfolio related results
  • BSc Hons qualification in a scientific discipline such as Chemistry or Food Science
  • An excellent networker - able to grow his or her relevant network and enhance the Company profile with each contract
  • Organised - knows the data and if not then where to find it and present it quickly
  • Vision and detail - able to see the bigger picture and long-term vision while diligently managing day to day issues while remaining undisturbed by and resilient to the necessary cultural change taking place within the group
  • Team player - able to challenge, concede and collaborate effectively with peers
  • Self starter
  • Able to deal with ambiguity while striving to create order and understanding from sometimes disparate and seemingly unconnected data points
  • Willing to travel overseas (long and short haul) and occasionally during weekends to visit customer/principals/suppliers
  • Valid and clean driving license
Desirable:
  • Blue chip background during early formative career development years, but more recent exposure in SME or start up environment
  • Marketing qualifications such as CIM Postgraduate diploma
  • Mildly extroverted personality whilst being able to work alone for periods of time
  • Fluency in a second language such as French, German, Spanish or Italian
