About the job

The role of our Plant Chemist is an excellent opportunity for a degree qualified chemical or chemistry graduate / post graduate with some experience working within a similar environment. Equally someone with a HND in Chemistry and some onsite experience. Our site at Bolton is a Top Tier Comah site and we produce specialty paint and paint coatings. The Plant Chemist is accountable for ensuring and improving product quality and production efficiency.

In this role you will….

  • Monitor all new production and communicates potential problems to Operations and Control Lab.
  • Ensure manufacturability through lab batches and following production batches as needed.
  • Identify process and formula changes needed for successful manufacturing of existing formulas.
  • Identify process and quality problems to determine systematic root cause and follows through with corrective action.
  • Coordinate test batches with production and scheduling.
  • Maintain local formulas in formulation system.
  • Drive improvements around primary metric OTMIS, distressed, and recall goals.
  • Lead and or participate in quality investigations to determine root cause.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and provide training to QC personnel to ensure procedures are followed.
  • Manage new formula introduction and plant manufacturability acceptance
  • Manage in raw material acceptance/rejection based on raw material specification
  • Ensure timely resolution of distressed batches and rework/returned goods.

What we are ideally looking for…

  • Bachelors Degree / Chemistry or Chemistry Engineering or HND qualifications
  • Experience in Operations, Quality, or Technical in a similar role desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient continuous improvement knowledge – Competent in basic and advanced stats.
  • Expert in ARC – Comprehensive knowledge of the Accelerated Root Cause process to resolve moderately complex issues.
  • ISO knowledge
  • Program knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access, Minitab, and Business Objects
