We are looking for an experienced Lab Manager with a background ‘on the bench’ developing liquid printing inks and specialist coatings. This person will also be responsible for managing a small team of technicians. This role would be suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced lab environment and is used to reacting quickly to changing customer demands.
As a proven self-motivator with strong drive and initiative, you should be able to demonstrate the following essential skills: good problem-solving skills, good communication skills, experience managing a small team, a commitment to improving quality, strong attention to detail and accurate written & verbal English skills for report writing & presentations. You will also have extensive experience formulating flexo/gravure liquid inks and coatings, knowledge of resins, pigments, solvents and additives, a good understanding of modern colour management systems, knowledge of the supply chain, be able to build relationships with suppliers and be familiar with both lab and factory processing equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
·Leading the lab team, allocating work, managing staff movements, priorities and day to day workload.
·Managing the lab work/enquiries log
·Staff training and development.
·Staff monthly ‘one 2 ones’ and twice-yearly appraisals
·Quality Control of production batches
·Reformulation of existing products for cost or technical reasons.
·Creating formulations and production processing procedures
·Raw material testing and approvals
·Providing Technical support to the sales team and direct to customers
·Playing an active part in product trials, scale-up and manufacture
·Co-ordinating / resolving all day to day technical issues on site.
·New Product Development i.e. working on customer enquiries for new inks & coatings.
·including some long term projects
·Work with the Regulatory Manager to ensure relevant standards and legislation are met when selecting new materials.
·Be involved with Lab Risk Assessments and ensuring adherence by lab staff to all relevant internal safe systems of work.
