Job Overview
  • Delivery: Guide the site to deliver on AkzoNovel's HSES policy, by setting the culture and proactively managing risk and hazards (35%(
    • Guide line organisation to develop and ensure implementation of HSES policies, procedures, plans and practices in line with the AkzoNovel and regulatory requirements
    • Manage intergaces with all external and internal (outside of site) stakeholders
    • Provide practical and valuable advice to the line organisation on all processes outlined above
    • Drive the site's generic HSES activities and initiatives
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of Stowmarket Site Improvement Plans, PSM, Common Platform Objectives for 2020-2025, and maintenance of ISO 1401 (2015 standard) Environmental Accreditation
    • Drive continuous improvement against SAQ and Corporate Audit standards and targets to achieve year on year growth
    • Member of the Crisis Management Team
  • Improvement: Act as a change agent and role model as we move from compliance to commitment based safety (25%)
    • Spend time engaging with employees and act as a role model for ensuring compliance with and commitment to the AkzoNobel HSES Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures (LSRs, LCPs, LOTOTO, PTWs and all aspects of contractor and visitor safety)
    • Work actively to identify and implement improvement opportunities using DMAIC and ALPS methodology
  • Capability: Leverage HSES expertise across the company to support Stowmarket and benchmark with others (20%)
    • Be an effective coach for the site by leveraging and extending its HSES knowledge
    • This can be done through personal participation in AkzoNovel expert pools, HSE Faculty learning programs or other HSES forums
    • Act as a specialist within own HSES discipline
  • Processes: Build line management understanding of HSES processes (10%)
    • Be an influential advisor to line management by building and fostering their deep understanding of the AkzoNobel processes, standards and best practices
    • This will cover Process Safety Management, People Safety Management (Behaviour Based Safety), Common Platform Objectives, Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and Security standards
    • Define the site processes and procedures related to each of these
    • Coach line management of these processes and procedures
    • Ensure regulatory compliance within each specialism
    • Comprehensive use of the HSE Suite (Enablon system) for all event and record keeping and tracking
  • Strategy: Contribute to the HSE strategy beyond Stowmarket (5%)
    • Contribute to the develop of the HSE strategy for design, deployment and delivery of the AkzoNovel HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures and Safety Common Platform for the entity at the next higher level, in order to ensure alignment of objectives and performance of Stowmarket
  • People: Manage and develop Stowmarket employees (5%)
    • Attract, lead, coach, appriase and develop employee(s) in line with HR guidelines and HSE operating model, and facilitate talent management process and succession planning
  • Bachelor or masters level qualification in HSE, engineering or related specialism
  • Strong strategic and conceptual skills with ability to execute and follow through
  • Ability to convince others, gain agreement or acceptance of plans, activities and ability to move others willingly towards a desired goal or course of action
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement of the processes, policies, standards on site
  • Able to work in an inclusive way in the HSE community, and within the Stowmarket Management team and with all on site to make sure the business experiences 'one voice' and the teams collective objectives are met
  • Detailed experience from work with management systems such as ISO 14001 or equivalent
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, problem solving, ability to think clearly and make good business decisions
  • Good verbal and written English language skills
  • Relevant experience (minimum 5 years) in different multiple units, disciplines, locations and/or other companies
  • Good knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Specialised knowledge of the AkzoNovel (or similar) HSES functional role and HSES management systems and programs, as well as external benchmarks
