Channel Operations Manager

Job Overview
  • This position sits within the Channel Marketing within our Consumer Brands Group
  • Working with the team in driving sales through Independents, Buying Groups and Wholesalers, developing all POS, promo calendars and line plans and managing all the operational areas of the marketing team
  • Insight
    • Develop knowledge of the markets, categories and competitors
    • Develop knowledge of the Independents, Buying Groups and Wholesalers
    • Use data i.e. GFK, Customer Epos to drive channel/category plans
  • People Management
    • Set clear objectives and KPIs
    • Agree personal development objectives
    • Management and development of Channel Marketing Execs within the Performance management framework to achieve goals
  • Working relationships
    • Build excellent relationships internally to influence and ensure full buy-in to agreed channel plans and drive them to implementation
    • Develop good working relationships with the Channel Marketing Managers ensuring that all point of sale, planograms are produced on time, to budget and to brief
  • Channel Sales
    • Responsibility for working with the Marketing Managers and Account Managers to agree the strategic plans to support the Independents, Buying Groups and Wholesalers to meet sales objectives
    • Develop and deliver marketing material to support the field sales team e.g. category presentations, training kits
    • Develop and champion category line plans to optimise sales and provide consistency to the customer experience across channels
    • Develop impactful cross channel point of sale to support product lines and campaigns to maximise sales
    • Measure results and make recommendations for improvements
    • Optimise budget vs. sales opportunities for maximum ROI
    • Develop a trade show kit that can be used across the channels
    • Present plans confidently to internal teams and customers as needed
  • Channel Marketing Operations
    • Take category management briefs from the Channel Managers and work with external agencies to turn into accurate line plans that can be presented to customers
    • Take the POS briefs from the Channel Managers and work with external agencies to develop within timescales and budget
    • Ensure that 3 quotes are gained for all POS activity
    • Develop and manage the team POS plan ensuring that all activity is briefed with most appropriate agencies and all timescales are met
    • Manage warehousing and POS stock ensure that warehousing space is maximised and required stock is in place
    • Ensure POS manuals are accurate and distributed to the field sales teams
    • Ensure that all result reporting is centrally in place for campaigns
    • Co-ordinate channel central planning
    • Co-ordinate a monthly channel update with key achievements across the channels
    • Co-ordinate channel content at sales meetings
    • Develop the cross channel promotional calendars for the Independents, Buying Groups and Wholesalers
    • Ensure sales support material is in place to drive these through the channels
  • Budget Management
    • Work with the Marketing Manager and the Channel Managers to optimise budgets
    • Work with Finance to ensure accurate phasing, month end close down and receipting of POs
    • Implement cost saving measures
  • Marketing degree or equivalent
  • Retail marketing experience e.g. developing point of sale material and line plans
  • Experience of working with sales teams
  • People management
  • High level of organisation skills
  • Working with marketing agencies
  • Confident presenter
  • Ability to plan and prioritise multiple projects and demanding deadlines
  • Experience of working in the DIY sector and paint/woodcare an advantage
  • Must hold a UK driving license
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Initiate and take insights from market analysis/research
