Job Description

About Us

Domino Printing Sciences provides industrial printing expertise and reliable solutions to help the world’s manufacturers be sustainable and cut waste, while attracting, informing, and protecting consumers. Global manufacturers across the food and beverage, life sciences, personal care, agrochemical, and industrial sectors trust Domino to support them with innovative coding, marking, and digital printing solutions. Our products help ensure the success of manufacturers’ products by allowing them to create differentiated packaging, protect against counterfeiting, and ensure governmental and regulatory compliance.

The Software Group are responsible for the design, implementation and testing of the software for all Domino coding and marking products which involve a wide range of printing technologies including new printer developments for continuous ink jet, drop on demand, print & apply and laser whilst supporting and developing our in-field products. In addition, we are developing products for beyond our printers such as IoT devices to comply with Industry 4.0 standards.

As a Graduate Software Engineer you will join the Software Graduate scheme for the Domino UK software group based at our headquarters in Cambridge.

As part of the graduate scheme you will be given the opportunity to work in other departments of Domino to gain valuable experience to help develop as a Software engineer. As some of our projects are run jointly with our colleagues in Germany, Sweden and with our parent company Brother in Japan there will also be opportunities for you to visit and work closely with those teams, and directly with our customers.

You will be joining us at an exciting time as we continue to expand our team in Software of around 70 people as we invest heavily both in an agile process transformation using the Scrum methodology and in our test resources and automated test infrastructure, all supported by industry leading tools such as Jira, Confluence and Jenkins. With this we have developed multifunctional teams which include software, FPGA, mechanical and electronic engineers all within the R&D group.

We believe in giving people the skills and training to do the job and then be trusted to contribute as early as possible as a highly productive software developer or tester – you will learn to be an effective member of a Scrum team producing tested software and delivering real business value. You will work on a variety of projects and with different teams as you learn about our business covering real time embedded development, UI, desktop applications, automated test and product support. In so doing you will gain an appreciation of the whole group and between us we can decide where you will want to focus going forward.

You’ll be mentored by one of our experienced software engineers and supported by your line manager with the training and guidance you need for professional development and career progression within the department.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to have a strong academic background with a degree (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering or similar. We are also interested in experience gained in software development possibly through industrial placement during your studies.

  • Some of the key personal attributes we are looking for: Positive and proactive approach to work
  • Flexibility
  • Good communication
  • Team player
  • Confidence to experiment
  • Desire to learn and apply new skills
  • Problem solving
